It's nearly impossible to achieve a good French fry without the assistance of a deep fryer, but with an air fryer? ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
I'm calling this recipe sweet potato "wedges" because I cut these thicker than a normal shoestring French fry. That's how I like my sweet potato fries! If you like your sweet potato fries skinnier than this, cut them smaller and reduce the cook time by a few minutes.
I made a simple dipping sauce for my sweet potato wedges by stirring together 1/4 cup of mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon of harissa, a pepper paste that I love and always have in my fridge.
Sweet Potato Wedges
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 large sweet potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch thick wedges
Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
Cut sweet potatoes into long, 1/2-inch thick wedges.
Throw salt and spices in a really large bowl.
Stir 'em up.
Whisk oil into the spices, then add the sweet potato wedges and toss to coat.
Place as many sweet potato wedges into the basket of your air fryer as you can without them overlapping. If they overlap, they won't cook evenly and the outside won't get crispy.
Cook for 18 to 20 minutes, depending on how crispy you like your wedges. My air fryer doesn't require me to flip food over to get it crispy on all sides, but if your air fryer does, flip it halfway through the cook cycle.
Repeat until you've cooked all of the wedges.
Sprinkle parsley and sea salt onto fries! Serve with a yummy dipping sauce! Marvel at the fact that you just made restaurant-worthy sweet potato wedges in 20 minutes, in the comfort of your home!
