Using a plastic ziplock bag coats the okra perfectly without the mess! This recipe reminds me so much of the southern fried okra my grandma makes, only healthier and not greasy. Toss it with salt and you're good to go.

Southern fried okra is the best! I wonder if there is something I can use other than flour for the coating? Maybe almond flour or oat flour? I want the same results but want to use something else. These were really good nonetheless, and a much better alternative to deep frying in oil.

Being from the south fried okra was a staple at our dinner table. This recipe allows me to relive my childhood without the food guilt of the okra being deep fried. I like to add a little hot sauce to my egg wash to spice the okra up a little bit.

I followed the recipe except to cut the okra into smaller slices and adding fresh ground black pepper to the cornmeal mix. It turned out perfect! I loved the results! Now if I could only find a source for fresh okra. It’s not a staple here in Southern California.
